Holloman Air Force Base got a taste of Hollywood June 29 when director Michael Bay visited to screen his latest film, "Transformers," for a capacity crowd at the base theater, days before its official nation-wide release.

Mr. Bay thanked the Air Force and Holloman for supporting his crew during the filming of the movie, which took place here in 2006 and featured the base's 49th Operations and Materiel Maintenence Group's assets.

"You guys were fantastic," Mr. Bay said. "Although I was disappointed that I didn't get to ride in an F-117, so I blew your base up in the movie."

More than a thousand Airmen and members of the local community, including staff from the Army's White Sands Missile Range, which also provided support during filming, had a chance to see the film during one of the three showings throughout the day.

"My husband and kids were super-excited that we got tickets," said Kari Adamson, who attended the 4 p.m. showing.

DreamWorks Pictures SKG enhanced the showings by bringing in additional speakers to augment the theater's sound system and also hired a technician to align the movie projector properly with the screen, ensuring the film was shown at, "Michael Bay standards," according to Steven Cohen, the film's projectionist.

Audiences watched the film with enthusiasm, clapping especially hard when the F-117 was featured and again when the F-22 played a role.

"It was awesome," said one young movie-goer as he left the noon showing.

"Transformers," received more cooperation from the Department of Defense than any other modern film since the post-World War II era war films, said Capt. Christian Hodge, who was at the Holloman premier to represent the Secretary of the Air Force's Film Liaison Office, which is based in Los Angeles.
