HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- It was a meeting of the minds recently as members of the Holloman community joined wing leadership and representatives from various base agencies for the monthly community Town Hall Meeting.

Town Hall meetings are held at 6 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at either the base theater or Community Activity Center and offers base agencies an opportunity to get important information out to the base public as well as give community members a chance to get their voices heard.

During the last meeting, several key issues were addressed.

Q: What is the status of the Kidsports move?
A: The short term move to the food court area of the old BX will be completed by March 15. A long term solution is in the works and is scheduled for completion during the renovation of the old BX, and will be combined with the Airmen and Family Readiness Center. The 49th Services Squadron will poll concerned parents to determine optimal operating times.

Q: What services are offered by the Family Child Care Program?
A: The Extended Duty Care program provides additional child care to parents required to work additional hours (i.e. exercises and UCI preparation) at no extra cost. Parents should enroll in this program before the care is needed. The returning Home Care offers 16 hours of free child care to members returning home from deployments. In addition, the number of child care providers is low on and off base. Classes are held on a monthly basis for people who are interested in becoming a provider. For more information on any of these programs, call 572-5848.

Q: What is going on with housing privatization?
A: Currently 71% of housing residents have signed new leases. The housing demolition project is on track for award by March 1 with a demolition start date of April 1. Affected occupants will relocate to the 2700-2800 areas with a quality paid for move.

Q: Is there anywhere I can get local news and information since the Sunburst has gone away?
