Beginning Aug. 8, Holloman’s school speed zones will be in effect from 7:45-8:15 a.m. and 2:35-3:05 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The speed limit will be 15 mph during these times on First St., Arnold St., Santa Fe and Arizona Ave.

“Remember,” said Tim Cahill, the 49th Wing occupational safety manager. “These are kids – slow down.”

The speed limit changes are not expected to influence other base traffic.

In the past, Holloman has displayed the yellow lights indicating the start of the school zone a week before school starts to prepare drivers and help prevent accidents.

To help prevent accidents, security forces will be strictly enforcing driving standards in school zones.

If cited, motorists may temporarily lose on-base driving privileges.

Holloman Middle School officially begins Aug. 15, and Holloman Elementary School officially starts Aug. 16 due to construction.
