Tops in Blue rocks Team Holloman
ALAMOGORDO, N.M. – Staff Sgt. Daniel Knight plays the trombone during a Tops in Blue performance at the Tays Center June 1. Knight, a health services management craftsman from the 21st Medical Operations Squadron at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo., is one of 35 Airmen serving as U.S. Air Force ambassadors in the Air Force’s premier expeditionary entertainment unit. The vocalists, musicians, dancers and technicians in the Tops in Blue 2012 tour are scheduled to perform more than 120 shows in 20 different countries this year. Each year, Air Force personnel stationed worldwide compete in a multilevel competition for the opportunity to be selected as a member of the unique unit. The Tops in Blue team is an all active duty Air Force special unit made up of talented performers selected for their entertainment abilities. Since its first world tour in 1953, the group has also performed on film, produced albums, and appeared on national television. This year’s performance featured songs by The Doobie Brothers, Earth, Wind & Fire, Whitney Houston, Maroon 5, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, The Zac Brown Band, as well as a tribute to the late Michael Jackson. ALAMOGORDO, N.M. – Members of the Tops in Blue ensemble perform at the Tays Center June 1. The 35 members of Tops in Blue serve as an expeditionary entertainment unit to provide quality entertainment for the U.S. Air Force family while simultaneously promoting community relations, supporting recruiting efforts and serving as ambassadors for the U.S. Air Force. The vocalists, musicians, dancers and technicians in the Tops in Blue 2012 tour are scheduled to perform more than 120 shows in 20 different countries this year. Each year, Air Force personnel stationed worldwide compete in a multilevel competition for the opportunity to be selected as a member of the unique unit. The Tops in Blue team is an all active duty Air Force special unit made up of talented performers selected for their entertainment abilities. Since its first world tour in 1953, the group has also performed on film, produced albums, and appeared on national television. Holloman Airmen react quickly, save a life
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – Master Sgt. Garret Dow, 49th Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management superintendent, and Tech. Sgt. Dow, 29th Attack Squadron aviation resource management flight chief, pose for a photo at Heritage Park June 1. Over Memorial Day weekend, the Dows saved a man’s life from a sinking boat at Elephant Butte Reservoir, near Truth or Consequences, N.M. The Dows, who have been stationed at Holloman AFB for two years, go to Elephant Butte three times a month, but have never experienced any situation like the one they did May 26. Arts and Crafts Center open to all Holloman artisans
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – Danielle Lambe, an embroidery specialist at the Arts and Crafts Center, looks over prices of items in the lobby May 29. The Arts and Crafts Center will begin selling miscellaneous crafts and supplies during the center’s “Sidewalk Sale” June 9. The center will also be holding classes like stained glass, soap painting, book making, paper making, scrapbooking and card making within the next quarter. Arts and Crafts Center open to all Holloman artisans
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – Cypress and Mercedez Lambe, daughters of Danielle Lambe, an embroidery specialist at the Arts and Crafts Center, paint bisque pieces May 29. Customers at the Arts and Crafts Center’s ceramics shop are able to buy bisque and green ware pieces, paint or glaze the items, and leave the shop with their items. Smith also frames shadow boxes, flags, coins and uniforms for about half the cost of going to a frame shop outside of the base.
