HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Holloman Air Force Base Airmen came up as big winners of recently announced 2016 Air Combat Command awards. The 49th Medical Group earned five awards, including Outstanding Clinic of the Year.

“I could not be more proud of the men and women of the medical group,” said Col. Paul Willingham, the 49th MDG commander. “Not only in their contributions to enabling the wing's mission, but also for the outstanding support they have provided to all of our beneficiaries. They go above and beyond each and every day to take care of our warfighters and their families.”

The 49th MDG has endured drastic manning cuts over the 2016 fiscal year, leaving the flight at 50 percent manning, compared to previous fiscal years. Despite the cuts, they have continued to support one wing, five groups, 10 tenant units and one geographically separated unit at Fort Bliss, Texas.

“I am just truly amazed at all of these outstanding professionals that make this organization such a great place for our patients to receive their healthcare.” said Chief Master Sgt. Michael Toreno, the 49th MDG superintendent. “Our 280 medics across the enlisted, officer and civilian spectrum make our executive staff’s job so much easier knowing we are providing top-notch care here at Holloman.”

Along with outstanding patient care, the Medical Logistics squadron initiated the Global Combat Readiness Training Center medical station, supplying $231,000 assets in support of $12,000 Security Forces Trainees. In addition, they seized Air Force Medical Service ProtoStar award by instituting 4 process improvements and 2 building modifications decreasing energy consumption rates 8.5 percent, saving $18,000 annually.
