Team Holloman has P.R.I.D.E.

HOLLOMAN AFB, N.M. -- Members of Team Holloman have paired up with the students at Holloman Middle School to help them bring out their P.R.I.D.E.

Falcon P.R.I.D.E. is a three-year-old mentoring program designed to assist the students at HMS with social and civil development. It focuses on Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Determination and Excellence.

"The mentoring program builds a bridge between school and community to develop caring and relationships," said Ms. Maria Showalter, HMS principal. "It provides opportunities to address qualities middle school students need for success. I believe P.R.I.D.E. has helped to create a school environment that strives to continually improve ourselves and it embraces the importance of personal choice."

All students at the middle school are involved in the mentoring program. The P.R.I.D.E. meetings are held once a month for 30 minutes throughout the school year. Mentors come from all aspects of the HAFB community.

Every month, three students who have demonstrated the qualities of P.R.I.D.E. are recognized at the end of the school year with an embossed Falcon coin.
According to Mrs. Margo Bratton, P.R.I.D.E. coordinator, this program was needed at Holloman.

"There are many programs that deal with the kids after school, but this is a way for the Holloman community to interact with the kids right in school," she said. "It shows the kids that adults do care enough about them to take time out of a busy day to talk to them and share life experiences."

In addition, it shows the kids they aren't alone with problems and concerns going on in their lives, said Mrs. Bratton.

The kids can get a real sense that HAFB cares about them and their quality of life - help the children and society will be better for it, said Tech. Sergeant John Bratton, P.R.I.D.E. coordinator.
