HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --   A second Dining Facility, located on the west side of the base, is scheduled to begin serving Airmen March 8.

The DFAC will offer meal card users and active duty members, primarily the 49th Maintenance Group, 49th Operations Group and 49th Materiel Maintenance Group, a second option for suitable dining to match the operations tempo and location of their workplace.

"With the growing mission of the F-22 and the MQ-1 and MQ-9, there has been a lot more need for a facility in this area," said 2nd Lt. Richard King, 49th Force Support Squadron. "We're trying to meet the needs of the Airmen."

The DFAC, which is in the process of being named, will offer a variety of short order menu items for lunch, from noon to 2 p.m., and for dinner, from 5 to 7 p.m., but times are subject to change based on the findings of a scheduled test phase. The 49th FSS will be conducting the test phase for six months to determine the usage and need of the facility.

"For now, [the second DFAC] is considered a quality of life initiative," said Lieutenant King. "This is something that the group commanders really pushed for out here because a lot of the Airmen can't get to the other facility."

Previously, the building was used as the base Customer College, but was originally built as a dining facility. Small renovations restored the building to its original state with a full kitchen. Airmen from the 49th Force Support Squadron will staff the renovated facility and cook the short order menu items on location.

The DFAC is located off of Nighthawk Avenue, Building 812, on the west side of the base.
