The 54th Fighter Group will be activating the 314th Fighter Squadron with the 12 F-16s that have been transferred to Holloman. Sled park preserves high-speed history
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Sleds that were once used in ejection seat tests on the Holloman High Speed Test Track sit in the 846th Test Squadron "bone yard," July 16, 2010. One or more of these sleds will be refurbished and displayed at the Sled Park, as part of the complete 13-sled exhibit. The idea behind the building of the sled park was to preserve the history of the 846th TS and to allow Team Holloman members to check out that history in a safe way. HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- An F-111 sled that was once used for ejection seat testing on the Holloman High Speed Test Track sits in the 846th Test Squadron "bone yard," July 16, 2010. This sled is scheduled to be repainted by corrosion control specialists from the squadron, and restored to its original state in order to be displayed at the Sled Park. Sled park preserves high-speed history
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- A commemorative 50th Anniversary replica sled of "The Fastest Man On Earth," Col. John Paul Stapp, is displayed at the 846th Test Squadron Sled Park July 16, 2010. In 1954, Colonel Stapp rode on the Holloman High Speed Test Track at 632 miles per hour, and came to a dead stop in 1.4 seconds. He was subjected to more than 40 times the pull of gravity proving that this kind of deceleration could be survived. The 50th Anniversary commemorative sled was designed to replicate the sled Colonel Stapp rode in the original ride -- the "Sonic Wind." (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Sondra Escutia)

GAF unveils Tornado static display
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Members of the community and German Air Force read the plaque in front of the German air force Tornado 45+11, which was unveiled April 28, 2010, by Col. Frank Kiesel, German Air Force Flying Training Center commander, in front of the GAF headquarters building. The plaque reads, "GERMAN AIR FORCE TORNADO 45+11. The PA-200 Tornado multi-role combat aircraft is an All-weather, supersonic, twin-engine, variable wing sweep, dual seater weapon sysem. It features short take-off and landing performance due to an integrated thrust-reverse system. The primary mission of the Tornado IDS includes precision strike against ground targets and extreme low-level capabilities by day and night. It can carry a spectrum of weapons and defensive aids and is highly survivable due to its automatic terrain-following and electronic counter-measure systems.
