The Air Force Assistance Fund campaign kicked off Monday March 26, 2018 at Holloman Air Force Base and will continue through May 4, 2018.

The AFAF is an annual effort to raise funds for charitable groups that provide support for Airmen and their families.

“Our goal for AFAF 2018 is to raise $65,406,” said Capt. Zachary Cabana, AFAF installation planning officer. “Last year, Holloman assisted 464 people, totaling $234,069.”

The AFAF offers funding for Airmen and their families during emergencies. The groups also provide educational needs and secure retirement homes for widows or widowers of Air Force members in need of financial assistance.

“The Air Force Aid Society, General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation and the Air Force Enlisted Village ensure that when a fellow Airman needs help, they have a place to go,” said Cabana.

The Air Force Aid Society helps Airmen and their families. It may be an everyday expense like a utility bill, or something far more unexpected like the need to fly home for a family funeral, or a request for a custom piece of medical equipment to improve the quality of life for a disabled child.

General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation awards grants to enlisted and officer retirees' surviving spouses, allowing them to retain a dignified standard of living.

The Air Force Village Foundations provide safe, comfortable environments where surviving spouses are surrounded by friends in a home they cannot provide for themselves.

“You never know when you, a fellow Airman, or your families will need the assistance of one of these charities, so please consider donating,” said Cabana. “100 percent of your gift will help our Air Force family members in times of need or for the rest of their lives.”

Unit representatives will be reaching out to each unit within the next few weeks. Donations are accepted through cash, check, money order or the payroll deduction plan.
