1/26/2012 - HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- A special duty briefing will be held Jan 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Airman Family and Readiness Center here. The briefing will include information on all aspects of special duty opportunities.

Senior Airmen with at least 35 months time in service through Master Sgts. with less than 16 years total active federal military service may be eligible to apply, and are encouraged to attend the briefing.

U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Tameka Lualhati, First Term Airmen Center NCO in charge, said young Airmen who are not eligible for a special duty at this time can still benefit from this class and learn what to expect from a special duty, how to apply, and why they should apply.

Some of the special duty assignments that are available for application and that will be covered in the briefing are: recruiter, Military Training Instructor, Military Training Leader, and Professional Military Education Instructor.

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Adam Karabelski, PME instructor at the Airman Leadership School here, said his special duty assignment made him a better leader, supervisor and NCO.

"That's the real value in special duty assignments", he said. "It gives you the opportunity to supervise in a totally different way than most supervisors. Any special duty that you pick is going to force you to grow in a different way than you would if you stayed in your AFSC".

The briefing is open to all members of Team Holloman and spouses are highly encouraged to attend since each specialty has some varied rank needs/ requirements.

Karabelski also said every Airman can benefit from a special duty assignment.

"Special duty assignments are great for building an Airman's career, and also for building a better Airman," he said.
