Colonel JONATHAN W. KUNTZ

Colonel Jonathan W. Kuntz is the Commander, 54th Fighter Group, Holloman AFB, New Mexico. He is responsible for the operations of the largest F-16 Formal Training Unit. The 54th Fighter Group is under the command of the 49th Wing and consists of more than 400 people including three F-16 Fighter Squadrons, an Operations Support Squadron and a Training Squadron. Before this assignment, Col Kuntz served as the Concept Development Branch Chief, Directorate of Joint Force Development, the Joint Staff, Suffolk, VA.

Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, Col Kuntz entered the Air Force in 2004 after graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and completed Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus AFB, Mississippi, in 2005. His first operational assignment was flying the F-16C/D at Misawa AB, Japan, after which he transitioned to the F-22A in 2009. During his time in the F-22, Col Kuntz held a variety of positions, including F-22 Instructor Pilot, Weapons Officer, Evaluator, USAF Weapons School Instructor, and F-22 squadron commander.

Col Kuntz is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Weapons School, and a graduate of the U.S. Navy’s Maritime Advanced Warfighting School. He is a command pilot with more than 2,100 flying hours in the T-37, T-38, F-16C/D, and F-22A.
