SAN MARCOS, Texas –- Ben Kvanli, former Olympian and current kayaking instructor with the Red River Racing Team, surfs through the rapids in his kayak here Feb. 19. Kvanli spent nearly his whole life kayaking in the Texas region, and competed in the white-water slalom event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He now manages the Red River Racing Team and supports a group of instructors that aims to help developing paddlers in the sport. Kvanli was the primary instructor guiding Airmen a spouse and a civilian from the Holloman Outdoor Wingman Program on their kayaking trip to San Marcos.
