Remembering the Holocaust
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Ted Lehman, a Holocaust survivor and U.S. Army veteran, speaks about his experiences next to a bench featuring the Star of David during the annual Holocaust Remembrance ceremony April 6, 2010. Mr. Lehman was born in 1927 in Sosnowiec, Poland, and experienced the transformation of his country under the Nazi regime. In 1943, Mr. Lehman and his family were sent to Auschwitz, a German concentration camp, where he was selected for the crematorium line, but at the last minute they saw the SS arm band he was wearing and was routed to another line heading for the work camp instead. Mr. Lehman shared his experiences with the crowd during the ceremony. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Sondra Escutia / Released)
