National Police Week

49th Security Forces Squadron members gather around to listen to Capt. Schneider Rislin, 49th SFS commander, give opening remarks on the first day of National Police Week with some words from the heart at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., May 12. According to the National Police Week website, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation in 1962 that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. Since the inception of National Police Week, the United States Air Force has lost 120 military and civilian law enforcement officers. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. E’Lysia Wray/Released)
