Robert Duncan, Alamogordo chief of police, Susie Galea, Alamogordo mayor, and members of the 49th Security Forces Squadron salute the flag as retreat is played during the Police Week closing ceremony at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., May 16. According to the National Police Week website, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation in 1962 that designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. Since the inception of National Police Week, the United States Air Force has lost 120 military and civilian law enforcement officers.
