One Military Day - Holloman AFB, N.M.
(HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M.) Chaplin (Capt.) Arkadiusz Szyda, Unit Chaplin to the 49th Security Forces Squadron, speaks to security forces members during a late night shift change at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M April 8, 2015. Being in the military for only two years, Szyda explains that the changes in his life are still on-going. Szyda expressed that hearing stories about the invasion of Normandy from World War II veterans and watching documentaries initially motivated him to join the military. Being able to impact an Airman’s resiliency is the driving force behind his motivation to stay in. After hearing stories of a Chaplin jumping from foxhole to foxhole during WWII encouraging and inspiring the young soldiers during a time of great stress, will always touch his heart and continue to drive him in helping others. Szyda stated that it is not his expectation to see results or the impact he has on Airmen, but to know that the family, friends, spouses, and co-workers see that impact or result shows how being a Chaplin contributes to the military mission.
