HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --

John Sanchez, Lt. Governor of New Mexico, visited Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, for a familiarization flight in an F-16 Fighting Falcon, May 4, 2018.

The flight was offered to Sanchez as a way for him to gain a better understanding of the F-16 mission and to experience the weapons systems displayed.

“It was more than I was expecting,” Sanchez said. “The preparation with the flight crew, getting into the F-16 and getting up into the air was just amazing.”

The F-16 is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and able to reach speeds faster than 500 miles per hour.

“I was really happy that I didn’t lose my cookies up there,” Sanchez said. “It’s a testament to the ability of the pilot to be able to do what they do for this country on a regular basis.”

Demonstrating airpower requires multiple personnel for any aircraft, along with dozens of man hours. Sanchez was given a first-hand look at the work that goes into every flight and showed strong appreciation for those that made it possible.

“This just reinforces the support that we have for everyone who is in uniform,” Sanchez said. “We need to continue to support them in every single way. I am proud of the work we do to support Holloman Air Force Base, it continues to play a vital role in the defense of our nation.”
