The 49th Wing Chapel staff and reFUEL Café here hosted "Soup-n-Stripes" for the first time Dec. 4.

During this ministry event, Airmen in the ranks of E-1 through E-3 who are set to be promoted to E-2 to E-4 came and not only got new rank sewn on two uniforms but also enjoyed a hot, homemade treat - soup and bread prepared by volunteers at the café, which is chapel-sponsored.

Senior Airman Patrika Patrick, 49th Comptroller Squadron finance technician, was one Airman who had her uniform stripes sewn on for free.

"I am very appreciative of the members from the café volunteering to do something so meaningful," said Patrick. "The soup was great, and I was able to get my uniform done in no time!"

"Soup-n-Stripes" was so successful, it will now take place on a recurring, monthly basis. The next event is scheduled to take place Jan. 8. Dropoff will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and pickup will be from 4 to 6 p.m.

Run by volunteers and funded by the chapel, the reFUEL Café is located in Dormitory 336 on the first floor in the dayroom. Hours are Fridays and Saturdays, 6 to 10 p.m. and Sundays 5 to 9 p.m. Coffee and other items are served for free to any Airmen of any rank, according to Shawn Hammond, the chapel's administrative assistant. In the last year since they first opened, they've served 9,266 beverages to 7,167 Airmen.
