See you there! A note for personnel on flying status: Blood donation is a common practice and is, in fact, promoted to the general and military populations through programs sponsored by the American Red Cross and Armed Services Blood Program 1 and 2. If an aircrew member is interested in platelet or plasma donation, it needs to be noted that this procedure (apheresis) can involve up to 800 ml in volume loss. As there is also some risk of hypocalcemia with this procedure, the member needs to be in a DNIF status for 72 hours after completion of the apheresis. RPA pilots: 4 hour self-DNIF (AFI48-123 paragraph 6.45.10.1); RPA sensor operators: 8 hour self-DNIF (AFI48-123 paragraph 6.46.11.2)
