Efficiency is very important in the military, especially in a customer service agency, which is why the renovation of the 49th Military Personnel Section is vital to the 49th Wing.

Members of Team Holloman came together to commemorate the grand opening ceremony of the newly renovated 49th MPS April 6.

"This renovation is an example of how in today's fiscal constrained environment, we can find smarter ways of doing business," said Maj. Christopher Busque, 49th Force Support Squadron commander. "In creating the efficiencies that we have, we will end up saving $1.4 million over its lifetime."

The $244,000 renovation, which was funded directly by the U.S. Air Force, began in February. The 49th MPS manpower flight drew up the plans to make a more effective and productive workspace. The renovation also allows every section of the MPS to be centrally located as opposed to being spread throughout Building 222.

"In the past, customers would have to walk all around Building 222 to find the different sections of the MPS that they needed, but now all they need to do is come to room 111," said Tech. Sgt. Lakisha Shannon, MPS NCO in charge. "Most customers didn't know where to go, but now we have made it possible to be a one-stop shop."

The new MPS is located in room 111 of Building 222. It is fully operational and taking customers Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"This is a transformation from what we used to call the pit, because of the open space," said Busque. "We now call it the maze and say that the transformation has been 'amazing'."
