Volunteers of Team Holloman Recognized

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  A ceremony was held June 28 at the Desert Sands Enlisted Club to recognize members of Team Holloman who have volunteered over the past year.

The ceremony recognized 163 volunteers who contributed a total of 38,296 logged hours of community service, which has an estimated value of $798,472.

Amy Koehne, 49th Force Support Squadron, opened the ceremony, proceeded by a performance of "The National Anthem" given by the musical group, "Under the Noon Sun."

The invocation, given by 49th Wing Chaplain (Col.) Dave Reeson, preceded the recognition of volunteers and the presentation of certificates.

During the presentation of volunteer certificates, Tech. Sgt. Raymond Lara, 49th Logistics Readiness Squadron, and Staff Sgt. Jessica Player, 49th WG Command Section, took turns reading the names of volunteers.

Each volunteer received a certificate, which was presented by the commander of the 49th Wing, Colonel David Krumm, and the 49th WG command chief, Chief Master Sgt. Gerardo Tapia.

"We could not do what we do in almost every single aspect of the base without volunteers," said Colonel Krumm. "We too often don't give volunteers the recognition that they deserve. We too often don't recognize what they do for us. It's not enough to have just one ceremony. When you look in the mirror every morning, you can be proud of who you are and what you do for us."

Following the presentation of certificates, 11 of the volunteers received special recognition in the form a pin called an "Angel Pin" for exceeding the standards of what it means to be a volunteer.

A symbolic check was presented to the volunteers, which represented the total number of volunteer hours and monetary value of those hours.

Though many members of Team Holloman were recognized as volunteers, it is highly encouraged that others step in to help the community.

"We really need more help," said Angel Pin recipient Staff Sgt. James Bosch, 49th Medical Support Squadron. "There are a lot of people out there that don't realize that they have the time, but they do. It doesn't take much and every little bit helps. Even if it's only a few hours here and there a few hours a year, volunteering makes a difference."
