Cubs Scouts are trained in citizenship and character development, but it would seem as if they also are taught great patriotism. Cub Scout Pack 124 of Holloman recently collected monetary donations, as well as clothing and hygienic items in support of Operation Wounded Warrior.

"We have collected donations for Operation Wounded Warrior before and had a great turn out so we decided to do it again," said Mrs. Jennifer Byrnes, Cub Scout Pack 124, cub master. "Cub Scout Pack 124 has been participating in Operation Wounded Warrior for the past two years."

17 scouts from Cub Scouts Pack 124 collected donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 27. They collected a grand total of $900 and three large boxes full of item donations. At the end of the day Cub Scout Pack 124 presented the collected donations to the New Mexico American Legion Riders Chapter 8 Post 108 President, Mr. Ed Summerall.

Cub Scout Pack 124 volunteering expenditures outside of Operation Wounded Warrior include Habitat for Humanity, Scouting for Food, Toys for La Luz Elementary, donating food for Thanksgiving and collecting newspapers for Dr. Staley's Veterinary clinic.

"It's good character building. Volunteering for Operation Wounded Warrior gave the Scouts a chance to show that they are willing to spend time and willing to support," said Mrs. Byrnes.

Cub Scout Pack 124 has been volunteering at Holloman since the 1960s.
