The 2007 Holloman Combined Federal Campaign kicked off with a burger burn at the Holloman Fitness and Sports Center Oct. 18.

The CFC is an annual event that gives all federal employees the opportunity to contribute to more than 1700 charities, such as the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army, said Maj. Anthony Puente, 49th Maintenance Operations Squadron commander and the CFC program officer.

Holloman Airmen have until Nov. 28 to reach the goal of $86,000, said Major Puente.

"We don't want to stop at $86,000," said Major Puente. "We want to demolish the goal."

Ms. Kathy Denton, the chairperson for the Southeast New Mexico CFC, said that because of the generosity of the federal employees, the charities are able to help people who can't help themselves.

"Find a charity that is close to your heart," suggests Ms. Denton. "Huge contributions are made when everyone gives a small amount."

Not only are there national charities to donate to, but many local agencies such as the United Way of Otero County are suggested charities.

"There are lots of local charities," said Major Puente. "Contributing to the local community brings the impact closer to home."

To donate to the CFC and to pick a charity, contact the group keyworker. The keyworkers are: Capt. Adam Bentz, 49th Fighter Wing at 527-7217; Master Sgt.
