The First Sergeant Council do their part to collect gifts for Airmen families in need.

"We put up the Diamond Tree every year around the holidays," said project leader Master Sgt. Arwa Cavender, 49th Material Maintenance Squadron first sergeant. "It's a completely anonymous program designed to help Airmen in need."

Located in the Commissary and Base Exchange, both trees are decorated with paper ornaments containing a child's age, shoe and clothing size and gift suggestions. This information helps shoppers find a gift for an anonymous child.

Children eligible for the Diamond Tree program include those in single income families and junior enlisted families.

Those willing to donate a gift can take one of the paper ornaments off the Diamond Tree and give both the unwrapped gift and the ornament to any first sergeant here by the deadline, December 18.

"It's rewarding," Cavender said. "I like to see the smiles. When you give them that gift and you see that smile on their face - it just means so much."
