Airman from Holloman AFB will volunteer their time and math skills to help out their fellow Airman during the 2014 tax season.

Volunteers will open the Holloman Tax Center on Mondays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting Feb. 2 through April 15, but will be closed on Air Combat Command family days and federal holidays.

The Holloman Tax Center is located at the Community Activities Center, Bldg 325, on the second floor above Oasis Pizza.  Appointments with the certified tax volunteers can be made by calling 572-1040 beginning Jan. 26. The service will be available to active duty Airmen, their dependents, retirees, and DoD civilian employees at no cost to them.

"In order to make sure of a smooth process we ask our customers call first to setup an appointment," said Maj. Rich Couture, 49th Wing Command Post chief and lead tax center advisor.  "We also ask customers arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment with their Social Security Card(s), their previous year's tax return and all 2014 tax documents, such as W-2s and 1099s. For married couples it is preferred to have both in attendance."

Members of Team Holloman who are currently deployed can request a six-month filing extension. Also, anyone whose spouse will be deployed during the tax season and wishes for someone to file their taxes for them will need to go to the legal office, located in Building 29, to get a power of attorney, giving their spouse or designated individual power to file on their behalf.

Created for the convenience of members of Team Holloman, the tax center has been a huge benefit for the community, saving members time and money.

"It is due to the efforts from all the volunteers who complete a 40 hour week-long training course in addition to taking four certification tests which makes this critical service available," said Couture. "Overall, we look forward to continuing the tradition of providing outstanding service to Holloman AFB and the community."
