Members of Team Holloman will have to hold off on movie-going for a few months as Holloman's Base Theater undergoes some needed renovation. The theater, managed by 49th Force Support Squadron's Outdoor Recreation Center, will continue to show the same free movies as it had before, but with a more modern and comfortable feel.

"We started these renovations around mid-December," said Will Vallee, Holloman Outdoor Recreation director. "We anticipate most of the work to be finished roughly by March."

The renovations will aim mainly to update the look and feel of the theater's appearance.

"The renovations were primarily focused on the main lobby and all the facilities bathrooms," said Vallee. "The theater has not been renovated for many years and was in pretty rough shape. These renovations will serve to make the building more modern and clean."

Members of Team Holloman that frequent the base theater can rest assured that although there will be aesthetic alterations, the theater will still be run and operated just as it had before.

"The changes taking place will be just to the building itself," said Vallee. "We will still be showing the same free movies on weekends and selling snacks as we had before. Hopefully this will only further improve the base theater experience for Airmen."

The theater receives 15 different movies per month from Navy Motion Pictures, said Vallee.

"We're fortunately able to turn around and air those movies for free to our base audience based on the random selection that we receive."

The base theater is currently able to accommodate up to 266 people for showings, it will remain an extremely convenient and affordable option for Airmen looking to unwind on the weekends.

"Due to the remote nature of this base, the theater has been prioritized as an outlet for Airmen seeking leisure activities in the local area," explained Vallee.
