The 49th Wing held its annual senior leadership conference Oct. 17-19 on Holloman Air Force Base, N.M.

"It is critically important for the 4,479 military members and the 5,500 retirees and dependents on this installation that the senior leadership takes some time out of our busy schedules to think forward strategically," said Col. James Thompson, 49th Wing vice commander.

"Col. Croft's vision for this wing allowed us two days to strategically plan for the future of Holloman AFB during our time of mission transition over the next year and beyond. We had a great strategic planning session, and then some great teambuilding exercises for the leaders of this installation, that will help us carry the great momentum of the Fightin' 49ers into the future, after all, 'Combat Airpower Starts Here!" Said Thompson.

For the first time, Holloman opened the leadership conference to civic and business leaders from the community. This included New Mexico state senators and representatives and business leaders, who participated in a round table discussion on the first day of the conference.

Bobby Martinez, president and CEO of Desert Sun Auto Group, was the guest speaker for the conferences first discussion session.

"It was a privilege and an honor to be included in this event, to be a part of the conference and share my ideas for what the business world is like," said Martinez.

The first two days of the conference included seminars on teaching and expanding organizational skills, resiliency counseling and task planning. The third day was spent on functional training, which included team-building exercises followed by media training or a marriage seminar.
