Exercising Delta
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Senior Airman James Howells walks toward a simulated vehicle-borne bomb in a bomb suit during an exercise inject Nov. 18, 2010. Airman Howells, an Explosive Ordinance Disposal technician with the 49th Civil Engineer Squadron, was called-in to perform reconnaissance of the vehicle after the utilization of the ANDROS HD-1 robot, pictured here. The exercise scenario called for members of the base to respond to a simulated terrorist threat from a group with access to the base. After performing reconnaissance, members of the EOD team effectively neutralized the simulated bomb. The anti-terrorism exercise also tested the base's ability to respond to changes in the Force Protection Condition in preparation for the upcoming Operational Readiness Inspection and possible real-world threats.
