Holloman's Woman's Rally: brilliant Published Jan. 16, 2008 By Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Gary Garvey 49th Fighter Wing chaplain HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Holloman Chapel hosted a Brilliant "1st Ever" Women's Rally January 12, 2008. The vision was initiated when Wing Chaplain Gary R. Garvey planned for a combined faith outreach for all Women new to marriage and the military. Chaplain Olga Westfall embraced this vision and innovatively moved to bring this ministry plan to fruition. She said; "The idea behind the women's Rally is to support the women of both Holloman AFB and the local community and equip them with mentoring tools for confidence and success." The Rally premiered Ms. Ginger McGee, mother of Col. Michael McGee. Col. McGee respectfully introduced his Mom, to which she responded Thanks Mike, I mean Col McGee. When asked how she feels this rally would aid women, Ms. McGee stated "It's a support system that helps women to feel loved and understood." Her enlightening presentation covered such topics as improving communication in your marriage, focusing on "How to get your husband to listen to you" and "How to turn irritation into appreciation." The Rally hosted 11 mentoring workshops, presented by Holloman Wing Staff Agencies and presenters from Alamogordo. The workshops taught parenting tips, balancing dual military careers and developing healthy relationships, to name a few. Over 80 participants came to the Holloman's Intermediate School to attend this Women's celebration. Chaplain Garvey closed this magnificent Rally saying, Mrs. McGee was the right person, at the right time, and right place at Holloman AFB. Her insightful guidance were was a benefit to participants.
