49th Force Support Squadron recently accepted two major awards for programs at Holloman Air Force Base.

The combined partnership of Holloman Airmen with a supportive local community has paved the way for several competitive programs here.

Maj. Lynn Lightfoot, 49th FSS commander, and Laurieann Goodier, Holloman School liaison officer, recently accepted the Lt. Gen. H.G. “Pete” Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award on behalf of Holloman Air Force Base and Alamogordo Public Schools.

“Holloman was recognized for the partnership we have created and maintained with Alamogordo Public Schools,” Goodier said. “This is the fourth time Holloman and APS has been recognized.”

The annual award encourages and applauds outstanding partnerships formed between military installations and school districts that serve military children.

“In 2014, Holloman and APS were awarded the "Recognized Partnership,” which is the lowest tier award and had multiple recipients,” Goodier said. “In 2015 and 2016, we were awarded the "Exemplary Partnership," which is the second tier award. Again, this level has multiple recipients. This year, we were awarded the "Outstanding Partnership," of which there is only one recipient. Holloman and APS are the only installation and school district to have been recognized four times.”

The accomplishments do not stop there. Domenici Fitness Center was also awarded the Air Force A1 Level Award for Fitness and Sports Program of the Year for fiscal year 2016.

“Winning the award was a great achievement for everyone involved,” said Master Sgt. Letora Williams, Fitness and Sports section chief. “So many Airmen put in a lot of effort and work to create a great experience for our patrons, and I am so proud of all of them.”

The fitness center logged thousands of hours with hundreds of Airmen and volunteers to accomplish events such as Tour De Holloman, the Monster Triathlon and several base-wide sporting events that support the Air Force’s “fit-to-fight” motto. They also renovated the base football field, installed an indoor playground and fulfilled Air Combat Command’s vision of 24-hour fitness operations.

“There are no Airmen more dedicated to directly improving the quality of life for Team Holloman and their families than the FSS,” said Col. Anthony Ajello Jr., 49th Mission Support Group commander. “It is great to see they were formally recognized for their hard work. I am proud to serve with them and all of our outstanding squadrons in the MSG enabling the Holloman Mission.”
