HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Every two weeks one of the 49th Wing’s newest team members has the opportunity to share their story during the bi-weekly 49th WG staff meeting. The selected Airmen introduces themselves to Wing leadership, allowing Wing leadership to meet one of the many Airmen accomplishing the mission each day.
This week Airman Nathan Goethal hails from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and has joined the 49th Communications Squadron as a cyber systems operator. During his off duty time, Goethal participates in activities that exercise his physical and mental fitness.
“I enjoy music; I play guitar, violin and piano,” said Goethal. “I am also into physical fitness, so I work out a lot. I’m also interested in programming and computers in general. I enjoy playing volleyball a lot and working on cars too.”
Before joining the Air Force, Goethal was attending school and working part-time at a pizza shop. He joined for the opportunities to further his career.
“I was interested in cyber and computers, as well as working for the Department of Defense,” said Goethal. “I also joined for the education benefits and because my grandfather was in the Air Force.”
Goethal’s future career plans include earning a degree in computer science or a related field and becoming a data scientist.
