HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --

Soaring Heights hosted a grand opening event for the Barks N’ Rec dog park, Feb. 24, here.

Snow cones for dogs and their owners were given out, as well as goodie bags in celebration of the park opening. The park is equipped with plenty of toys and activities for dogs and several seating areas for owners to watch their puppies run and play.

“We currently have a teeter totter, open tunnels, fire hydrants, dog watering stations, miscellaneous play toys and gazebos for owners to sit at,” said Pablo Varela, Soaring Heights project director.

2nd Lt. Kierra Greene, 849th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron section commander, said she can’t wait to use the dog park regularly with her 5-month-old poodle mix, Arlo, who loves to play with other furry friends.

“I am excited that we have a dog park on base conveniently close to home,” Greene said. “I will definitely use the dog park regularly and I look forward to spending quality time with Arlo after work.”

Dogs of all sizes are welcome, from colossal canines to pocket-sized puppies, as there are two separate areas for them to roam and play.

“The dog park is a direct result of resident feedback,” said Varela. “Soaring Heights heard from residents, via the Air Force Tenant Survey, that a dog park would be a great enhancement and amenity for the community, and Soaring Heights agreed!
