The 49th Wing hosted a student air show day for six school districts and 15 home school families in the first event of its kind to foster community partnerships, May 6, 2022.

Multiple activities were available for students including ground vehicle displays, heritage aircraft, a U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, “known as the Thunderbirds,” meet and greet, displays from the 49th Security Forces Squadron, photo opportunities with 49th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters, Steel Talons Honor Guard demonstrations and a performance from the U.S. Air Force Academy Band.

“Inviting our private and homeschool families out to experience a little piece of Holloman is one way we continue to build education-community partnerships,” said LaurieAnn Goodier, 49th Wing school liaison. “This event provided these community members the opportunity to learn more about our mission at Holloman AFB, as well as inspire them to think beyond the here and now.”

Over 700 attendees comprised of students, teachers and parents were able to enjoy a closer look at Holloman’s various mission sets and enjoy a sneak peek into the 2022 Holloman Legacy of Liberty Air Show and Open House.

“All the students, staff and parents from St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School were so impressed with the quality, organization and professionalism experienced during the Legacy of Liberty Pre-Air Show held by HAFB,” said Victor S. Gonzales, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School principal. “We can’t thank you enough for inviting us to an amazing event for our school and community.”
