Airmen pledge to be alcohol-free or volunteer

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  Colonel Kevin Bennett, 49th Mission Support Group commander, has issued a challenge to his Airmen who are willing to accept it at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., May 3.

The challenge is alcohol abstinence and for those who don't drink a volunteerism challenge of 30 volunteer hours from May 5 to June 6.

"Historically for Holloman, May has been the month with the most DUIs. Last year we had six. So the 5/5 - 6/6 Challenge is a way to increase awareness during this critical month with a positive, lead-by-example campaign," said Bennett.

There are 63 Airmen participating in the alcohol abstinence and 13 Airmen in the volunteerism part of the challenge.

To kick-off the challenge, Bennett asked all who are willing to participate to sign an oath of alcohol abstinence or volunteerism.

"The challenge will be a great way to show other Airmen that there is more here than entertaining yourself by drinking every night," said Airman 1st Class Nicole Burgess, 49th Logistics Readiness Squadron F-22 Raptor aircraft parts store apprentice, who is participating in the challenge.

The challenge will encompass the Air Force core value "Integrity First" by trusting the Airmen when they say they have completed the challenge. The Airmen who successfully complete the challenge will be awarded a two-day pass.
