Migratory bird hunting season to begin Oct. 27 Published Oct. 24, 2012 By 49th Wing safety HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The New Mexico 2012/2013 migratory bird hunting season is about to begin. Again this year, Lagoon G at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., will be open to military hunting only on the following dates: Oct. 27 and 28; Nov. 10 to 12 and 22 to 25; Dec. 8 and 9 and 22 to 25; Jan. 5, 6, 19, 20, 26, and 27. These dates have been deconflicted from Holloman AFB flying operations, as hunting during flying ops is prohibited. Because Lagoon G is southwest of the golf course, residents in base housing can expect to hear shotguns on those dates. The hunting area is far enough away from the golf course (and isolated by a barbed-wire fence) that anyone at Holloman AFB should not be concerned. To be approved for these hunts, review the mandatory brief located on the wing safety sharepoint site from a government computer on the Holloman AFB network.
