Gateway Brass, the brass ensemble from the U.S. Air Force Band of the West, will be performing at the Flickinger Center in Alamogordo, N.M., Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Gateway Brass performs at military ceremonies, conducts educational clinics, and presents entertaining community concerts throughout Texas, Louisiana, Arizona and New Mexico.

The members of Gateway Brass bring many years of professional experience with symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, touring shows and today's popular artists.

"We play many all-time favorites for our audience to keep them connected with our music," said Tech Sgt. Mark Barnette, NCO in-charge of the Gateway Brass quintet and operations representative for the concert band.

Gateway Brass ensemble is just one of the eight sections that make up the 45-member U.S. Air Force Band of the West.

The ensemble performs for civilian and military audiences throughout the southwestern region of the United States, said Barnette.

"We perform at many community relation events that connect with the public," said Barnette. "When the opportunity comes for us to perform at local communities that are in close proximity of Air Force bases I feel it makes a positive impact on that community."

Gateway Brass travels more than 20,000 miles annually and its musicians appear in
more than 100 concerts and clinics, said Barnette.

"The members of the Gateway Brass honor Air Force heritage through Air Force ceremonies and through community relation events," said Barnette.
