The 49th Operations Group held a change of command ceremony here June 17.

During the ceremony, Col. Kenneth Johnson assumed command of the 49th OG, preceding its former commander, Col. Kevin Huyck.

Col. David Krumm, 49th Wing commander, was the reviewing officer for the event.

"It's a great day for us," said Colonel Krumm. "Sad in some ways because we watch Colonel Huyck relieve his command of the 49th Operations Group to another great American, Colonel Johnson."

Following a speech by Colonel Krumm, Colonel Huyck took a moment to say farewell to the Airmen of the 49th OG.

"To say it's tough to give up the best operations group in the Air Force is definitely an understatement," said Colonel Huyck. "The men and women of the OG know what it takes to get the J.O.B. done. You should smile every time you hear that. Because that's exactly what you do, you get the job done. It has been a true honor to serve as your commander."

The Airmen then rendered their former commander a final salute before the change of command was made official and the new commander was introduced.

"To the men and women of the 49th, I look forward to serving you," said Colonel Johnson. "I look forward to serving with you as we support and defend the Constitution of the United States and prepare our forces to deliver disciplined, effective combat airpower as we support the mission of the wing's one team, combat ready."

The Airmen then rendered the first salute to their new commander followed by the playing of the Air Force Song and the departure of the official party.
