Officials with the 49th Wing have confirmed the official name for the 2011 Holloman Air Show and Open House.

The "Legacy of Liberty" 2011 Air Show, scheduled for Oct. 8, 2011, will honor servicemembers of the past while inspiring those of the future.

"Holloman is rich in history and has endured the turnover of multiple weapons systems and world changing military experiments in its history," said Maj. Derek Steneman, air show director. "We are also witnessing a time when our troops are spread across the globe fighting for our freedom on a daily basis. We wanted a patriotic theme that honors both ends of the spectrum -- the past and the future."

In preparation for the event, Major Steneman and the Air Show Committee have worked with a team of more than 80 base-wide civilians and military personnel to work out the logistics of the event and to schedule performances.

More than 15 acts have been confirmed so far, including the Air Force Thunderbirds, the F-22 Demo Team, Team Rocket, Dan Buchannan and the Canadian Forces Parachute Team. There will also be food, a professional audio system and announcer, and much more.

"The Air Show and Open House will give us an opportunity to thank the community for their amazing support and it also allows the men and women in uniform, past and present, an opportunity to recognize and be recognized for their contributions to their country," said the air show director.

Major Steneman said he encourages everyone and anyone to attend this free, day-long event.

"I promise you will walk away with a different perspective after you meet the men and women of Holloman," he said. "It's going to be a very patriotic day and I bet at the end of it you will feel it."

The committee has added a few improvements to this year's Air Show and Open House, including easier traffic flow and parking; better, yet non-intrusive security; and a more robust Air Show website which will be launched later this month.

The Legacy of Liberty Air Show will be open to the general public, admission is free and gates open at 8:30 a.m.
