Congratulations to the 49th Wing Safety Office for winning four awards at the 12th Air Force Level:

Traffic Safety Special Achievement Award;
Chief of Safety Special Achievement Award;
Maj. Aaron Lattig, Flight Safety Officer of the Year; and
Shawn Quarles, Weapons Safety Outstanding Achievement Award

According to the citation, the 49th Wing Safety Program distinguished itself by establishing outstanding safety programs at Holloman for the fiscal year 2010. The simultaneous changing of the wing's combat mission and the addition of the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper training mission required an addition of more than 1,500 base-assigned personnel. The safety office rose to meet the challenge by vastly expanding training and education efforts.

The 49th Wing chief of safety, Lt. Col. Matt Martin, said even though the awards recognized the safety office, it was really the safe decisions of Team Holloman that brought them home.

"We have very aggressive programs here at Holloman to emphasize safety," said Colonel Martin. "This is not so much a recognition of the wing safety office, it's really a recognition of the risk management decisions the Airmen here are making. I would like to ask everybody to keep up the good work and we'll try to make next year as good as 2010."
