The 2010 Combined Federal Campaign kicked off Sept. 24 with a burger burn at the Domenici Fitness and Sports Center, allowing Team Holloman to hear what CFC is all about, giving them a chance to donate while also enjoying a free lunch.

The CFC is the world's largest annual workplace charity campaign that raises millions of dollars each year for non-profit organizations providing health and human service benefits throughout the world. It is the only authorized solicitation of Federal employees at their workplace on behalf of approved charitable organizations.

This year, Holloman's donation goal has been set higher than ever before at $100,000.

"Over the years folks in the Federal government, both military and civilian, have contributed over $6 billion dollars and I'm happy to announce this year our goal is $100,000," said Col. David Sullivan, 49th Wing vice commander, at the event. "I challenge everybody to be generous, to look deep inside yourselves and help those folks and all these wonderful charities who, at the end of the day, give back to us here at Holloman Air Force Base."

The CFC point of contact for Holloman, Master Sgt. Jamie Schuster, said for the cost of a couple coffees or energy drinks every month, Team Holloman can easily reach this goal and give to those who help others. He, like most everyone else who donates, has a personal reason that motivates him to give to a particular non-profit organization each year.

"I have a brother with Multiple Sclerosis, so for me the CFC is my way of giving back to something that has affected me," Sergeant Schuster said. "You have to ask yourself: what is important to you or what has affected you?"

A point of contact for each unit at Holloman has been assigned, each equipped with donation booklets -- which list more than 3,000 non-profit organizations to choose from -- and donation cards. Unit representatives will make 100 percent contact with their respective units to ensure anyone who wants to donate has the opportunity to do so.

Participation in the CFC is voluntary and Team Holloman members, both military and civilian, can donate to the organization of their choosing by making a one-time contribution or by a monthly payroll deduction over the span of one year.
