The 49th Wing and 49th Security Forces Squadron will soon be going through a change in regards to personnel working the Installation Entry Control Points.

The current contract for installation security guards filled by TW and Company expires at the end of September 2010 by proclamation of the Department of the Air Force.

In their absence, new Department of Air Force Police Officers and Security Guards will be hired as replacements and continue to secure Holloman AFB, its personnel and resources.

During the transition, security forces members will be manning the Installation Entry Control Points and search areas to maintain the level of security that the base populace has been accustomed to, enabling the 49th SFS to provide the proper selection process and training of new personnel. DAF has established a rigorous hiring process, similar to civilian law enforcement agencies, which will help ensure only the highest-qualified personnel are hired.

The DAF Police Officers and Security Guards will have to pass a medical examination, physical agility test and formal training which will include a trip to the Veterans Administration Law Enforcement Training Center or equivalent civilian law enforcement academy. Each applicant will also receive New Mexico State and localized installation training. Once police officers and security guards have completed these tasks, they will be certified with full arrest powers and detaining authority on the installation.

The DAF Police Officer and Security Guard personnel will have the same authority and jurisdiction to provide law enforcement and security protection as their 49th SFS counterparts. All personnel assigned to or visiting Holloman AFB will fall under their purview and jurisdiction and should react to the DAF personnel accordingly.

The 49 SFS is looking forward to welcoming these police officers and security guards to their ranks and hope the base community will do the same.

All Airmen separating from the U.S. Air Force are highly encouraged to apply. Positions are being advertised on USAJOBS. For further information, contact Master Sgt. Gilmore, 575-572-3910, or Mr. Nash, 575-572-2083.
