An Iron Airman competition was held at the Domenici Fitness and Sports Center Jan. 29, to raise money and to encourage friendly competition amongst Holloman's "fit to fight" Airmen.

The three contending teams were given ten minutes to complete each task including sit-ups, cycling on a stationary bike and running laps around the indoor track to see which team would earn the title of "Iron Airman."

"Each group was energetic and eager to raise money," said Master Sgt. Felicia Hamilton, 49th Logistics Readiness Squadron and event coordinator.

A three-man team of first sergeants won the competition, with Master Sgt. Dave Kalal, 49th Communications Squadron, running 17 laps on the indoor track, Master Sgt. Robert Rogers, 29th Attack Squadron, biking 3.2 miles on a stationary bike and Master Sgt. April Owen, 49th Force Support Squadron, completing 237 sit ups, a record for the women's category.

Proceeds from the competition will go toward the annual 49th Fighter Wing awards banquet, scheduled for Feb.12.
