The Base Exchange will host a Child ID event Friday, July 31 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the common area by the food court. Anyone authorized on base is able to attend.

The event will provide children with a fingerprint card, DNA sample and child safety advisory. The whole process takes approximately two minutes and can add to children's security by providing positive ID.

"Parents having positive ID on their children, or even themselves, could be critically important in time of an emergency where the ability to absolutely identify a person can be so important," said L.K. Crosthwait, 49th Fighter Wing Anti-Terror Officer. "Operation Child ID does not keep any of the identifying information gathered, there is no database or anything like that, the fingerprints and DNA sample are collected easily and painlessly for the parents to keep for any future emergency need."

Holloman sponsors such events through the Anti-Terrorism office and the Local Anti-Terror Advisory Council. The 49th Security Forces Squadron also actively supports the event along with various area law enforcement agencies, primarily the Otero County Sheriff of Alamogordo and Lincoln County Sheriff of Ruidoso.

Since 2007, LATAC has put on similar public Child ID projects, both on and off base, and has provided their services to over 2,000 children in the local communities surrounding Holloman.
