Welcome to the Party Published June 16, 2009 By Senior Airman Rachel Kocin 49th Fighter Wing Public Affairs HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The Sexual Assault Response Coordinator office presented a video to all Holloman first sergeants on sexual assault and awareness called Welcome to the Party, June 11. "Welcome to the Party" was designed to be a teaching tool for professionals who provide sexual assault prevention education. The video has three modern scenarios on how perpetrators work, according to said Ms. Tracy Spencer, SARC coordinator. The scenarios presented real experiences that anyone, regardless of age could find themselves facing. "Welcome to the Party" depicts the all-too-common and unfortunate outcome of combining youth, alcohol, peer pressure and hormones. "We wanted to show the video because alcohol is the number one drug used in sexual assault and we were looking at something to do to reduce risk with sexual assault and alcohol use," she said. The video was presented to the first sergeants and will be used to present to Airmen age 18-24 residing in the dorms. "I think the video is a good idea because all the young Airmen living in the dorms need to be aware that this can happen anywhere, both in and out of the military," said Master Sgt. Melissa Tarango, 49th Materiel Maintenance Support Squadron first sergeant. Ms. Spencer said in the future she plans to expand the audience for the video to young Airmen residing off base.
