Military personnel and regular visitors to Holloman can expect traffic delays and a gate closure Friday, March 13, from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 10 a.m. as crews work to move a piece of equipment to White Sands Missile Range.

The delays will affect mainly the western portion of the base, however, delays can be expected throughout the base due to the traffic backups associated with street closures. Members of the 49th Security Forces Squadron will serve as escorts and traffic control during the closure and movement.

The West Gate will be closed to all incoming and outgoing traffic beginning at 8:30 a.m. Vehicle and foot traffic on 49er Avenue will be stopped at 8:45 a.m., as will all traffic on adjoining streets, which include Kelly Road, Bong Road, Tularosa Road, Trinity Street, Observation Road and Mesquite Road.

Personnel using the West Gate can expect additional delays due to commercial traffic being backed up on U.S. 70.

Delays will also affect west-bound traffic on U.S. 70 as the equipment is moved to WSMR. The public is advised to plan accordingly and asked to observe all traffic safety regulations both on-base and off-base.

The equipment is part of a future NASA test being conducted at WSMR.
