Senior leaders of the 49th Fighter Wing at Holloman received a special opportunity March 2 and March 3 to visit with the commander of the 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern Command).

Lt. Gen. Norman Seip came to Holloman to tour the base and see the progress being made on the F-22 facilities, thank the members of Team Holloman for their hard work, visit local leaders and fly a "special mission," which allowed him to see the Raptor perform in action.

For the first time in 26 years the general flew an F-4 Phantom. The flight was in a support role for an F-22 mission.

"I received the chance to see the world's greatest fighter aircraft in action, as well as meet and recognize some of our great airmen at Holloman who go above and beyond the call of duty," he said.

While General Seip visited with the downtown leadership, he thanked them for their steadfast support in making Holloman's position easier. The support of the community has allowed the base to remain on the cutting edge of technology with both the F-117A and the F-22A being stationed at the base.

Holloman was the first base under General Seip's command to receive the Raptor in June 2008.

He also personally thanked the men and women of Team Holloman for the outstanding work they do day-in and day-out to make sure the Air Force mission is achieved.

"Thanks for what you do - being the world's greatest Airmen and your great service to our Air Force," he said. "We are a greater Air Force for your efforts, professionalism and dedication."
