More than 120 women gathered at the Community Center, Dec. 2, for the first-ever Women's luncheon at Holloman AFB.

The luncheon was hosted by the 49th Fighter Wing chapel staff, women of the chapel and Soaring Heights Communities.

"Women are very stressed and busy during the holiday seasons, especially after Thanksgiving and before Christmas," said event organizer Chaplain (Capt.) Olga Westfall. "We wanted to have something special just for women to let them know how much we appreciate them and enjoy fun, fellowship and food."

The luncheon featured guest speaker Kathy Crispin, wife of the senior pastor from the Alamogordo Assemblies of God Church, and a performance by Handmaiden, a professional group of four singing ladies.

Women chose from an array of food for lunch and topped it off with a piece of the specially-made "Women's Luncheon" cake. And as they ate, they were able to enjoy a motivational speech by Ms. Crispin.

"This time of year is kind of hectic especially for women," said Ms. Patti Johnston from Soaring Heights Communties, also an event coordinator. "We cook, we shop, we try to make the holidays special for our families. We wanted to give our ladies a time to reflect and slow down the pace even for just a one lunch hour."

And with a turn-out of more than 120 women, many Team Holloman wives, daughters, servicemembers and civilians were able to do just that.

Ms. Johnston says she hopes to be able to coordinate another luncheon just for women next year.
