Kevin Schneider, superintendant of White Sands National Monument, has extended a special invitation to Team Holloman to a holiday open house, Dec. 12.

In what will be a spectacular holiday display for that night only, 1,000 luminaries, along with the full moon, will illuminate the historic adobe visitor center at White Sands National Monument.

Felipe Ruibal will play live acoustic guitar music for the open house. Complimentary light hors d'oevres, hot cider and hot chocolate will be served in the visitor center and gift store. In addition, last minute holiday shoppers can take advantage of a major sale at the park's gift shop and bookstore throughout the day and during the open house. White Sands will also offer special ranger-led programs.

"The holidays are a special time to be shared with family and friends, and our national parks are a perfect part of those celebrations," Mr. Schneider said. "We hope to welcome many of our friends from the local community to come share in holiday cheer with us."

The holiday open house will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 12. For this night only, White Sands National Monument will stay open until 8p.m., allowing visitors to enjoy a winter night with a full moon among the dunes.

Visitors with questions may call the park at 575-679-2599, ext. 236, or check out www.nps.gov/whsa.
