Holloman, Airman Battle Uniform (ABU) Cold Weather Outer Garment Policy Published Nov. 10, 2008 By Staff Sergeant Rebecca Zannetti 49th Fighter Wing Public Affairs HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Team Holloman has begun to feel the chill in the air. The big question for the military member is what winter clothing items are authorized for wear with the Airman Battle Uniform? A message from the Pentagon, which is an extension from the FY08 policy, states, "The industry capability continues to be a limiting factor in APECS availability. Demand continues to outpace projected production and inventory levels. As a result, the policy is extended until 1 May 2009." Holloman's stance on this policy is simple. Colonel Jeffrey Harrigian, Commander, 49th Fighter Wing, says, "Wearing the Gortex BDU is approved with ABUs.", and stressed another section of the Pentagon message, "Our continued objective is to avoid mixing and matching uniform items; specifically ABU with BDU items." Colonel Harrigian added, "If weather is such that the Gortex is required, Airmen with BDUs should wear the BDUs with the BDU pattern Goretex." Additional messages regarding uniform wear are located on the Air Force Portal.
