Stop and go

During the school season children can be seen, morning and afternoon, walking down sidewalks, playing on playgrounds and crossing the roads.

At these times, when children are going to and from school, there are volunteer crossing guards to help them on their way.

"I just want to make sure the children make it home safely. They're so excited after school and they aren't very careful crossing the streets and some drivers don't pay close enough attention," said Airman Marissa Manaway, 49th Operations Maintenance Squadron.

Crossing guards are given vests and stop signs by the elementary school here and directed which street to watch. When children need to cross the street, the guards will post in the middle of the road with their sign until the children have cleared the road.

"It's really fun and it helps the kids out," said Airman 1st Class Alexis German, 49th Operations Maintenance Squadron.

"The children are so nice and talkative when they see us," she added.

Crossing guards play an important role in getting Team Holloman's children home safely, but they're always looking for volunteers. For more information on volunteering contact Staff Sgt. La'Tora Jackson, 49th Logistics Readiness Squadron, at 572-7176.
